Removal of checkpoints, the release of disk space

Like what creates restore points system?

Control points are created by means of regular OS - «System Restore» or manually. Weekly automatically running Windows system restore points are created. These control points are created as in the case of early recovery means making changes to your computer. For example, if you only - installed an application or updated any driver (sometimes even points are created by normal antivirus update), at which point the system will automatically create a new restore point. Depending on the setup recovery tools such control points can be several.

Restore points (automatic or manual) are created in order to have been able to «roll back the PC» in the old (working) condition if suddenly some terrible virus or dimwitted user hurt/remove any system files. How to free up disk space used by checkpoints?

To free up disk space occupied by the old control points, we need to find that comfortable place where they hranyatsya. Thus, in the «Start» button or desktop icon we click on «Computer» - opens a window on a local drive. From the top menu bar select the option «System Properties», see screenshot below.

A window will open «System Properties» where you will first need to select the system disk, and then click on «Settings», see screenshot to the left.


Install the recovery

In the «System Protection», we can check the current settings recovery tools, and if necessary, you can make any necessary adjustments.

Here you can set use the maximum amount of disk space to store the control points. The higher the value set using the more control points are preserved, respectively, more space will be used, see screenshot to the left.

Based on the total amount of installed programs on your PC will depend on the number of saved checkpoints. In order to save disk space system drive, you can install minimum usage.

When you create a new control point, the system will automatically delete old terms. To manually remove all existing control points, click «Delete». To disable the agent creating restore points configured recovery tool you need to check the box «Page Disable System».

In the picture I have highlighted in red the points that can be safely deleted because there is a new version. Below I will discuss how to remove the two old points manually.


Remove old system restore points manually

Drive control menu

Open the Local Disk window and right click brings up a menu control disc. Then select the item «Properties» (left screenshot).

In this window, we are interested in only one button - «Disk Cleanup», which boldly press, see screenshot to the left.

After that, be a little dialog «Disk Cleanup» with status indicator process, see screenshot to the left. But this is not the process of cleaning the disc, it's just counting of disk space that can be regular means release of OS Windows.


Delete system files

In the «Disk Cleanup (C:)» we can set the check mark next to the file to be deleted, but we have no time for this, because we removes old checkpoints. So do not hesitate and doubt click «Delete System Files», see screenshot to the left.

When you click on the delete button, again we see already familiar to us box «Disk Cleanup» green indicator, after which again opens a window «Disk Cleanup (C:)» but with two tabs, see screenshot to the left.

Open the tab «Advanced» and confident click «Clear». Then, turn up the dialog «Disk Cleanup» to the question : do we really want get rid of all control points except the last, see screenshot below.
